Combining Type Faces Effectively & Using Effective Web Design

I thought the article about combining fonts was very interesting.  I discovered combining fonts on my own while designing greeting cards.  Frequently I use a different initial cap, usually something very themed/stylized and match it with something compatible and more readable.  I have also had times when I have to match a font that doesn't include a numbers with a font set whose numbers look like they belong with the font I'm using.

I have read similar things about web design as the article written by Mr. Friedman. I think it is important for a creative person to realize they are not creating a piece of art -- they are creating a functional website with artistic elements.  As web designers we are communicators -- it is important to do that clearly and concisely and to make sites as appealing as possible without obscuring the message.

Useful information.

Lookin' at some 1-pagers

I thought this was kind of a slick portfolio design, but it is pretty slow loading.  It's pretty minimalistic wordswise.  I guess the pictures do the talking.

I like this site.  It has a nice look and there's something about seeing a person on page that makes me feel good about working with that company.  I feel I'll be working with that person and he looks like he knows what he's doing.  Wouldn't it be a hoot if he was just a model?

There is something compelling to me about this site.  I again react to the picture of a person.  It feels personal.  The writing is interesting.  Clearly this guy's first language isn't English.  He also needs to edit himself -- TMI.

A Word About Truth

Tell me what good it would be
if what you said had no truth for me
if what you say you'll surely do, is nothing that is really true
if all the things you say you've seen
are nothing that you really mean.

Oh there are few short years of youth
to learn to love and treasure truth.
And when your life is over here
and on the Earth you've left those dear,
tell me why they should remember you,
who told them much, but little true.
